The Parakeet has evoked many ideas and thoughts since ancient times. It is most associated with the following keywords and traits:

Parakeets exhibit many distinct traits, from their colorful plumage, to their ability to mimic the sounds they hear. Parakeets will often be in monogamous relationships. They exhibit affection with each other, often grooming each other to strengthen their bonds. They exhibit this closeness and signify love, trust and loyalty.

The Parakeet is also an excellent communicator. Showing off its ability not just mimic sounds but human speech as well. They not only copy the sounds but use these effectively when they want to express themselves.

Parakeet as a Totem Animal

As a totem, the parakeet has much significance. Here are some of the traits it shows as a guide and totem:

Communication and Mimicry

The parakeet has the ability to communicate very well. It can make use of different sounds and even copy the speech of others. Through this totem, a person is able to loosen their tongue so they may be able to speak well. They can also gain the ability to copy or mimic the traits of others. A very useful skill especially when you want to be able to accomplish something untried.

Love and Trust

Parakeets are generally monogamous, and exhibit affection and love for their mates. They can be often seen grooming each other. This trait is a useful one to be guided to, especially for those that wish to strengthen trust and the bonds in their relationships. This extends to being affectionate and loving even in non-romantic relationships.

Parakeets show us how to work better with others. Parakeets who are in groups can learn to speak much quicker and can be made to be more comfortable. Having access to this trait gives solutions to those that may be shy or need to learn to socialize more.

Parakeet in different Cultures

Parakeets and parrots have been greatly prized for their long tail feathers. These have been used as decorative items for different cultures worldwide. There are also those who worship parrots such as in ancient tribes in Peru.

Heroes in Polynesian legends are attested to have undertaken dangerous journeys in order to obtain the feathers of the parrot.

Association with Celestial Forces

With their bright plumage and their ability for mimicry of sound, the Parakeet has been viewed as a messenger of the gods. Their ability to communicate with humans as well their flight to the heavens serves as bridge to getting messages across each plane.

In Buddhism, the Parrot is perched on the shoulder of Guan Yin, a deity of mercy and compassion. Here the parrot symbolizes loyalty.

Parrots mostly symbolize solar forces, as its bright colors are gleaming in the sun.

Parakeets in alchemy

Birds have always played an integral part in alchemy. As a bird of the sun, the parakeet can symbolize the sun’s power in alchemy. It is associated with creation, and thus is used chiefly for this purpose.

The power of the parakeet is also apparent in its abilities for speech and mimicry, a useful trait when making alchemical transformations.
