Samhain

(Sow-When) Oct. 31 – the holiday to celebrate the thinning of the veil and those that have passed.

Ruled over by crone goddesses such as Hecate.

The Sabbat or holiday known as Samhain is celebrated on Oct. 31st, otherwise known as Halloween.

This is a particularly important holiday for Witches because it is known as their New Year. This is when the Wheel of the Year starts over for Witches, and is often the most reverential as well as solemn holidays.

At this time of year it is said that the veil between the world of the living and the dead is the thinnest, therefore working magic which involves communicating with those that have passed is not only easier, but extremely important. This is the time of year when any spirits who are hanging onto their human connection might have one last chance to speak with their loved ones.

Samhain is when the ushering of the spirits into the afterlife is helped by those who guide their way with candlelight, which is why candles are in pumpkins and turnips. This is the time of year when a Witch must go inward and determine what about the year worked for them and what did not work for them.
