These generally mean obstacles, but not always: on the first phalange they are signs of general debility, and when going quite round the top of the finger, they indicate danger of a wound to the head. On the second phalange these cross lines indicate moral difficulties or falsehood, envy, and general bad nature; on the third phalange they are said to be signs of inheritances, but this is not reliable unless confirmed by other signs on the hand.
